LifeShield exists for one simple reason: to help ordinary people feel prepared when someone they love needs them most. We believe emergency training should do more than help someone earn a certification. It should build the confidence to recognize a life-threatening emergency and respond decisively before professional help arrives.

That purpose is deeply personal. Growing up alongside siblings with significant disabilities—and surviving a cardiac arrest as a young child—gave founder Kyle Mohler an early appreciation for how fragile life can be. Those experiences shaped a lifelong commitment to service, eventually leading to EMS, the Fire Service, and a career dedicated to helping others prepare for life’s most critical moments..

The Experiences That Shaped LifeShield

Growing Up Around Courage

Growing up alongside siblings with significant disabilities gave me an early appreciation for how precious health really is. While many children take those things for granted, I witnessed resilience, perseverance, and unconditional love every day. Those experiences taught me that compassion isn’t simply something you feel—it’s something you demonstrate through service to others. Long before I entered emergency services, those lessons quietly shaped the person I would become.

The Day Everything Changed

When I was three years old, I experienced a medical emergency that caused my heart to stop. Although I have no memory of the event itself, I grew up knowing that my life had been saved because people acted when it mattered most. Looking back, it’s impossible not to see how that experience influenced the path I eventually chose. It reinforced a belief that ordinary people, equipped with the right knowledge and the confidence to use it, can make an extraordinary difference in someone else’s life.

Learning to Serve

My career eventually led me to the Canadian Armed Forces, followed by emergency medical services, and the fire service. Those experiences reinforced a lesson that every emergency responder understands: the first few minutes rarely belong to professionals. They belong to the people who are already there. Time and again, I saw how prepared bystanders could change the course of an emergency long before an ambulance or fire truck arrived. That reality continues to shape the way we teach every course at LifeShield.

LifeShield was founded to close the gap between expectation and reality. Too many people assume help will arrive before it is needed. In truth, the actions taken during those first critical minutes often matter most. Our mission is to equip ordinary Canadians with the confidence to recognize an emergency, remain calm under pressure, and take meaningful action until professional help arrives.
